Reducing our ecological footprint
Verbrugge continuously invests in green and sustainable logistics solutions to reduce its ecological footprint.
We operate LHVs (longer and heavier truck combinations). A LHV significantly reduces CO2 emissions and means fewer trucks on the road. Some of our trucks already run on biofuels.
Multimodal container transport
Verbrugge Terminals functions as a container hub in Zeeland. Due to the strategic location of Verbrugge Terminals in Vlissingen and Terneuzen between the ports of Antwerp, Rotterdam, and Zeebrugge, container transport by road is shifted to container transport by water.
Inland vessels transport up to 400 TEU per barge daily to Vlissingen and Terneuzen, where the containers are only delivered by truck for the last kilometers. An inland vessel can replace up to 400 trucks per day and thereby limit CO2 and traffic jams.
Renewable Energy
At the terminals, the roofs of our warehouses will be fitted with solar panels step by step. More than 50,000 solar panels with a total capacity of 17 million watts have already been installed, enough to provide approximately 5,500 families with electricity. Where possible, we switch to electric driving.
Hydrogen
Verbrugge International is part of the Canal Zone business cluster where we examine the feasibility of a hydrogen filling station in Terneuzen.
